We have so enjoyed our year membership to Mount Vernon. We've gone a lot of times (especially considering it's over an hour away.) It's been wonderful to be able to go back and see familiar things and some new to us things. We've been able to repeat the parts we've liked, skip the places with lines, and enjoy the different seasonal activities. I'm a little sad for our membership to end but I think we'll be busy soon enough :)
Today was a super day. We didn't start off as early as I thought which was okay too. The kids slept in and we got to see James for a few minutes after PT (we do love living a mile from his work.) We listened to the end of Shiloh Season on the drive. We love audio books. We arrived and saw lots of buses but skipped the line since we had season passes. We got inside just as the opening movie was about to play. We've seen in several times but it's a good reminder of what a great leader the US had for our first President.
We've taken a picture by this tree most of the times we've gone. Fun to go back! Beautiful day out!
We got to the farm just in time to see the horses tread the wheat. What a great idea! Neat to watch the horses trot on the wheat and then see the wheat berries underneath the barn.
The kids liked watching the threshing and the winnowing of the wheat and were really excited when they each got to do it.
KG's wheat and chaff ended up all on her head.
K is thinking about getting a job there winnowing. He already has the hat for it!
We had a perfect day out. Mount Vernon is really beautiful! The kids loved the ha-ha wall!
Thankfully they didn't jump over this ha-ha wall!
We watched the "snow movie" one last time-then headed to the Hands on History room. They have wonderful children's books about George Washington. KG and C loved dressing up. We've really enjoyed our year at Mount Vernon- several trips with James, a Thanksgiving trip with Nana & Papa, Homeschool Days last year, some pit stops on the way home from NC, plus several fun day trips of me and the kids. How fun that on the way home we listened to The Long Winter and heard lots about wheat!
