Pi Day Part 2

We have really enjoyed Pi day the last few years- starting with 2013 and 2014 in Baltimore. I can't believe I didn't blog about Pi day 2013- maybe it was being busy with new baby who isn't so new anymore:) anyway, we've had fun with Pi day. In 2013, we went to the Maryland Science Center- we had a good time doing the activities but the highlight was probably the pie from Dangerously Delicious Pie. We were glad there were five of us so we could get one of each pie- the Baltimore Bomb was our favorite!

In my search for ideas for pi, I found that we started our Pi celebration sooner- from Facebook post 2011 "enjoyed a good pi day- we stayed in PJs until 1030, made a blackberry pie, green shamrock cookies, and lots of bread, read about history of pi tonight."

I'm not sure how the shamrock cookies fit Pi day but I'm sure they were good!

I didn't know until today that Pi day became an official US celebration in 2009 so we've been celebrating most of the years. Today we started off our day with Pi pancakes. I didn't get copies but the kids had 3.14 and Pi before circle pancakes.

 For lunch we had egg pie (quiche). K made some neat pics for Pi day. This shows some of his favorite pies.

 for dinner we had chicken pot pie and then the highlight of pi day- s'mores pie

Happy 4th of July

It's November- I'm thankful that I can still blog about July! Definitely lots of ups and downs in this post. 

I was so happy that James and I got to go out on a nice date night before he flew to Korea. (Thank you Grandma!) We splurged and did zipquest! So much fun! It was the perfect day out. Beautiful trees and waterfalls. So nice! 

After ziplining, we went to our favorite Fayetteville restaurant- the Mash House. Dinner was good but our favorite is always the Big Bad Blondie- yum! Great way to end a super date!

The entrance to our own hiking trails- well, maybe not ours personally but we almost always have the whole place to ourselves- and we learned this week (November) that we can hike for hours back there!

We enjoyed our Blue Star visit to Old Salem. It was so neat to tour the different buildings and learn about the time period. We even enjoyed some old fashioned sodas and treats from the bakery!

Now the teary part- good-byes are never fun. Of course, this isn't good-bye but see you later. but still hard. It reminded me of 6 years ago. I'm not sure which was harder. I did read this poem recently from the 2008 airport trip. I guess it doesn't matter which is harder- it's just different. I can only be thankful for all the time that we have together and look forward to the time when we are back together. And make the best of the time apart!

We did try to distract our sadness with some donuts before church. I was so thankful to have a great church service to go to after the airport instead of straight home.

Happy St Patrick's Day

What a day! Who knew we could have such green fun! Here are a few pics of our green fun:

yesterday we made leprechaun traps. the kids (and neighbor friend)were very excited to color, tape, glue, ... all things Irish to the box, windows, walls. We made shamrocks, Irish flags, rainbows, ... all in hopes of catching a leprechaun. turns out they were too fast- they did leave behind a messy house, green footprints, gold coins, and when we opened the fridge we found green oatmeal and green coconut milk. They also left a note with some fun things to do on St Pat's Day:

-Make shamrock cookies- very fun & yummy.

Make green playdough- the kids made all sorts of things with this good playdough

I didn't get pictures of dancing an Irish jig or doing Irish Olympics but those were a lot of fun too!

Freezer Paper Stenciled Valentine's Shirts. We used the same technique this month to make some Shamrock Shirts for St. Patrick's Day! Because the shirts, paint, and supplies can be purchased very inexpensively at most craft stores, you can easily come together to make fun shirts like this for every holiday!
